GAULT, ANDREW FREDERICK<\/h3>\n

Andrew Frederick Gault \u00e9tait un commer\u00e7ant, industriel et philanthrope n\u00e9 le 14 avril 1833 \u00e0 Strabane (Irlande du Nord). Huiti\u00e8me de neuf enfants, il venait d\u2019une famille anglo-irlandaise prosp\u00e8re du comt\u00e9 de Tyrone. Jeune, Andrew Frederick Gault s’est tourn\u00e9 vers une carri\u00e8re dans le commerce.<\/p>\n

C’est gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 ses investissements dans la fabrication de textiles en coton, que Gault a r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 assurer la croissance continue de sa richesse et de sa r\u00e9putation et a acquis le titre de \u00ab\u00a0Roi du Coton au Canada\u00a0\u00bb. Andrew Gault est d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9 en juillet 1903. MAGASIN-ENTREP\u00d4T POUR GAULT BROTHERS & CO.<\/h3>\n

En 1870, Andrew Frederick Gault ach\u00e8te un terrain afin d’\u00e9riger un nouveau magasinentrep\u00f4t pour la Gault Brothers & Co., un commerce de gros, tissus, articles de mercerie, etc. Le propri\u00e9taire retient les services de l\u2019architecte John James Browne pour le projet devant abriter les bureaux et le magasin de la firme.<\/p>\n

Le nouveau magasin-entrep\u00f4t de cinq \u00e9tages avec toit mansard\u00e9 est construit en 1871 et occup\u00e9 enti\u00e8rement par le propri\u00e9taire \u00e0 partir de 1872. Il change de nouveau de propri\u00e9taire en 1945 quand la compagnie de chaussures Lafayette Shoe Manufacturing l\u2019ach\u00e8te, y installe ses ateliers et y poursuit ses activit\u00e9s jusqu\u2019\u00e0 sa revente au milieu des ann\u00e9es 1960.<\/p>\n

Au milieu des ann\u00e9es 1990, le b\u00e2timent subit d\u2019importantes r\u00e9novations et est transform\u00e9 en h\u00f4tel. L\u2019h\u00f4tel Gault a ouvert ses portes en juin 2002. En 2011, M. Nathaniel Fraiberger a fait l\u2019acquisition de l\u2019h\u00f4tel aupr\u00e8s de M. ARCHITECTURE<\/h3>\n

L\u2019h\u00f4tel Gault, initialement magasin-entrep\u00f4t de la Gault Brothers & Co. se distingue par son opulence d\u00e9corative, illustrant la tendance \u00e0 l’embourgeoisement du quartier o\u00f9 les commer\u00e7ants rivalisaient pour attirer la client\u00e8le avec des locaux \u00e0 la pointe de la modernit\u00e9.<\/p>\n

L’\u00e9difice adopte principalement un style Second Empire avec des touches de la Renaissance.<\/p>\n
